相変わらず蒸し暑い日が続いていますね。
さて、今日紹介させていただくessayは
"Asian views on Europe"です
WILLでは、たくさんのtopicsが用意されていますが

少し堅苦しいと思われるかもしれませんが
「日常会話だけでなく、日本・世界の社会

Japan is an Asian country. That's why I am Japanese, and besides, I am Asian. The view on Europe depends on the country. Many Asian countries used to be European colonies. That's why many Asians might have a bad image of Europe. On the other hand, Japan wasn't a European colony. Japan modernized itself because of not being a European colony. At that time Japan modeled itself upon Europe: politics, low, industry, you name it. Since then, Japan long to go to Europe. Almost all Japanese want to go to Europe someday.
Japanese have good knowledge of the United States. On the other hand, we have a poor knowledge of Europe. TV news often reports on the United States. Japanese have a tendency to lean to an American sense of values and think they are right, but sometimes they are wrong in Europe. Europe is a place Japanese long to go and a place far away.

Thanks for your essay, it was very interesting to read about how Asia perceives Europe. Europeans views Asia as a mysterious place and many people have little knowledge of the culture and customs. Recently, many people have become interested in Japanese, Chinese, and South East Asian culture and more Westerners are coming to Asia as a result.
