I have some hobbies.
Especially I like playing and listening to music, reading books and going abroad in my free time.
I've been practicing the violin for nine years. I like listening to pop music and classical music. I go to concerts of my favorite violinists twice a year. I feel comfortable with the sound of strings.
I read one or two books in a month. I like mystery stories. I'm excited while I'm reading. I like to figure out the mystery by myself.
I've been to about ten countries, mostly in Europe. My favorite country is Italy. I'm interested in Italian history, culture, food, music and fashion. When I visited Italy the first time, it felt familiar, so I think I would have been Italian in my former life.

"What an important issue in 21 century?"

I think issues in space will be important.
I heard some terrible things about space.
There is "the Photon Belt" in space. It has
very high energy.
It is said that in 2012 on December 23, the Earth
will dash into it.
If the Earth dash into the Photon Belt, there
will be serious damage to electronic equipments.
And recently many volcanoes and earthquakes have
happened, its also said that the Photon Belt is
approaching, so it's the reason.
I can't imagine what will happen in space in the
21st century, but I believe another 'Ice Age' will
come someday.

教師より
Thanks for your essay, even though I found it quite
unsettling! For me, the important issues will be in
our own hands to fix. For example, the increasing
population and the decreasing resources available to
I predict major changes but it's difficult to say exactly
what they'll be.
I can get positive power from music.
When I feel stress I want to listen to or play music. While I'm playing I can concentrate on it, so I forget my worries.
I think music has a psychological effect on people because there is a psychological treatment - music therapy. Music makes us cheer up and calm down.
And I think music has a common word all around the world. We don't need our own languages in music. We can enjoy music together even if we don't know each other.
Although this is just my opinion,
Japan would be able to overcome the current great recession in one or two years.
Now, Japanese are taking into account the exportation of cutting-edge technologies: infrastructure such as high-speed rail, digital TV broadcast systems, nuclear electricity plants, and so on.
There are also many new inventions in the pipe line.
If we could take the initiative, these technologies would be innovations that substitute as alternative sources of revenue.
On the other hand, Japan has serious financial and welfare problems. And also, we need proper control over the huge dismissal rate, and the low birth rate.
Japan is an Asian country. That's why I am Japanese, and besides, I am Asian. The view on Europe depends on the country. Many Asian countries used to be European colonies. That's why many Asians might have a bad image of Europe. On the other hand, Japan wasn't a European colony. Japan modernized itself because of not being a European colony. At that time Japan modeled itself upon Europe: politics, low, industry, you name it. Since then, Japan long to go to Europe. Almost all Japanese want to go to Europe someday.
Japanese have good knowledge of the United States. On the other hand, we have a poor knowledge of Europe. TV news often reports on the United States.
では、今日もWILLの生徒様のessayを紹介します

The following is only my impression.
Firstly, the learner should use that language everyday. She can read foreign magazines on her way to the office. She may hear foreign language conversation programs on the radio.
Anyway, the important thing is making an opportunity to use the language everyday to be familiar with it.
The second necessary point is to change of our frame of mind which has the tendency to refrain from expressing personal opinions. Because mostly foreign languages have character of assertion of one's own opinion.
To overcome it, making attention for current topics is useful.
However, I'm not sure if these points are actually effective or not, because I was not a good language learner.

教師より

Very good essay, you have made some excellent points. It is really difficult for most language learners to use their foreign language everyday. This is extremely important in developing one's ability.
Because language is strongly bound to culture it is crucial to change one's frame of mind in order to start to understand the language and culture better. In English giving your opinion, even if it is different from others', is part of our culture - quite different to Japan!
Very well done.
There are almost too many to mention.
Of course, it is true that they are convenient and clean because after we used them, the only thing we have to do is throw them away.

My father, who used to smoke two packets of cigarettes a day, quit smoking when I was a baby. At that time I put everything around me in my mouth. One day, he found me smiling proudly with my mouth full of something. He wondered what was in my mouth and noticed that the ashtray on the table was almost empty. He quickly opened my mouth and was astonished to find out that my mouth was filled with a lot of cigarette buts. It was my father succeeded in quitting smoking.
My father gave up smoking because he was afraid that his smoking could harm his daughter's health. Everybody knows that smoking can be extremely damaging to health, not only of smokers but also of someone around them. I think this is the worst thing about smoking. More and more Japanese people, however, have started to worry about their health and the heath of others lately. So the number of smokers has decreased and the number of no-smoking areas in public places has increased. I think this is a good trend.
On the other hand, Chinese people seem less concerned about their health than Japanese people. When I was in Beijing, China, I noticed that no smoking areas in public places were very rare and I hardly encountered a Chinese man who did not smoke. After seeing that smoking was prevailing in China, I was surprised when I read an article which reported that the leading cause of death among Beijing citizens was lung cancer, which dominated over any other diseases. What made frightened me was that lung cancer , was the main cause of death in both men and women. As far as I know, Chinese women hardly ever smoke because they consider women smoking to be immodest but a large number of them die from lung cancer. This prove that smoking can be badly effect on non-smokers health , too.
There are many disadvantages in allowing people to smoke. Buying cigarettes can bear on family budgets. Smoking can be a fire hazard. Tar can yellow the walls and ceiling of a house. But on top of that, we should be more sensitive to the bad effects on non-smokers' health derived from smokers' inconsiderate manner of smoking.
My favorite kind of western food is pizza. I especially like simple pizzas with just cheese and tomato sauce. Last weekend, I went to Tokyo to see my sister. After she got work, we went to a very famous Italian restaurant where she had made reservations. I had heard a lot about its delicious pizza from her, so I was really looking forward to visiting there. The restaurant was not so large, but it was crowded with many people. We ordered pizza Margherita, salad, pasta and glasses of red wine. The pizza crust was thin, but the taste was excellent! Words couldn't describe the taste. I have never had such a delicious pizza. Of course, we ordered another plate.
Regarding Japanese food, I like Okonomiyaki. It's like a pan cake which is basically made of flour, shredded cabbage, egg and pork. We also top Okonomiyaki with various topping such as seafood, cheese, rice cake and some kinds of noodle. In Japan, there are two types of Okonomiyaki. One is called "Kansai type" and the other is called "Hiroshima type." Of course, I prefer the Hiroshima type because it's healthier and more delicious. Hiroshima has a number of Okonomiyaki restaurants that many tourists visit and leave satisfied because of the special taste. When I stayed in Florida for a home-stay program, I made Okonomiyaki for my host family. I'm sure foreigners would also enjoy the taste of Okonomiyaki.

“環境問題”は今、最もglobalな話題なのではないでしょうか？
日本語だけで議論するのではなく、世界中の人々との議論なくしては解決できないと私は思います。

Since many countries encountered environmental problems and wide-spread pollution in the 1970's and the 1980's, many countries have become more attentive to the preservation of Earth. Yet, personally, I believe that human activities are still damaging the Earth.
First of all, we are confronted with the problem of 'global warming'. The cause of this problem is carbon dioxide which is emitted because of some human activities. Though many countries are concerned about this problem and try to restrict the emission of carbon dioxide, it is estimated that the temperature of the Earth will become higher several degrees in the next hundred years. Because the effect of this global warming is unaccountable, we must make as much effort as we can. An example of this endeavor is the 'Kyoto protocol', the agreement which determines that each country has responsibility for restricting the amount of carbon dioxide which the country emits. Yet, regretfully, some countries will not ratify this agreement because of their own economic development. This fact shows that the egoism of human beings is still damaging the Earth.
Additionally, our activities are still discharging industrial wastes and polluting materials into the air and the water of the Earth. These materials have had a bad influence on many kinds of living things. Though the number of countries and companies which are trying to improve this contamination is increasing, it is a fact that many countries and companies are still neglecting this problem and contaminating the Earth.
In conclusion, human beings are trying to make the Earth a better place to live. For example, we are ameliorating the ozone layer by restricting ozone-depleting substances. But, considering the other problems such as 'global warming' and wide-spread pollution, I must say that human activities are still damaging the Earth.
If I could, I would like to live in another country.
I know that living abroad is not easy. First, adapting to an unfamiliar environment is more or less difficult and stressful, especially if you do not have a good command of the language there. Second, you cannot go home immediately when an emergent matter arises back home. Third, you may encounter unpleasant events such as being discriminated against or being swindled because your being Japanese.
However, I believe living overseas is meaningful, at least for me, regardless of the difficulties of it. First of all, putting yourself into a totally different environment from that in Japan is so adventurous and exiting, because you cannot guess what would happen next. You can experience something new at every moment in the first stage of your stay. If you live in Japan, you can easily imagine what your life will be like life in Japan can be stable but at the same time it can be routine and boring. Second, being exposed to diverse cultures helps you to develop flexible ideas and wide views. Consequently, you may be able to accept various senses of value. Simultaneously, you can be also aware how people outside Japan would see Japan or Japanese. It gives you a bilateral outlook towards the world. Third, you can play the role of an individual ambassador. The local people in the country you live in can be introduced to a part of Japanese culture by having you around. And if you come back to Japan, you also bring some cultural impacts with you from the country where you stayed for some time. So I would like to live overseas.
「高齢化社会の問題と解決策」
というような課題だったのを覚えています。
こんなに長く、多くの人に考えられてきた問題

The aging society is a serious and urgent problem in Japan. As the birth-rate in Japan becomes lower and lower, the percentage of older people becomes higher.
And many problems, such as the shrinking working force and pension and nurcing-care systems occur. It's really a complicated problem.
I don't have much knowledge about this problem but I think Japan should learn how to deal with its aging society from other countries. Maybe the Kingdom of Sweden also has an aging society, but it copes with this problem well and it known as a welfare state. I think we can get many ideas about how to deal with our aging society from learning about the systems of welfare states.

I am always excited when I imagine my future.
I can see my future clearly, but it's not ideal. An ideal future never happens because bad things always happen. I will face ordeals again and again, and I will get over each of them. Getting over something is one of the important parts of growing up. Although we can't grow up without facing ordeals, we are afraid of them.
I want more than 2 children, and I want to play roller hockey with them. I'm sure that it would be fun.
Since my husband is competent, he will be promoted sooner or later. I will support him. I make delicious meals everyday, and he's glad to eat them. Although now I can't make sweets well, I'll make my children healthy and make delicious sweets everyday.
I strongly hope that all people around me will be healthy and happy. If I face a lot of trouble but the people around me are happy and supportive, I can deal with the trouble. I don't want a big house. I don't want to be rich. I just want a peaceful life.
After my husband's retirement, we will buy a small house in Shonan or Kamakura. And then we will have peaceful days until the day we die.
The best movie I've ever seen is "The phantom of the opera."
This movie was recommended by my parents, and I went to see it with my sisters.
The movie has a lot of music in it and the actors sing along to the music. I thought that the music really exited the audience at the movie theater. After I left the theater, my heart kept beating fast. That night I dream that the phantom and heroine sang while I slept. When I woke up, I felt that they actually had been there.
