The place I'd like to visit is Boston in the U.S.A. because my boyfriend lives there. I want to see him. He went there for his research last June, so almost 10 months have passed since he left.
I went there to see him two times . My first visit was last October. He showed me around town. We stopped at many famous places, like Harvard University , Boston Museum, Boston Symphony Orchestra Symphony Hall. Boston was very beautiful , with many attractions. There were many old apartments made of red bricks. He told me that Boston was the oldest city in the United States and is the sister city of Kyoto. We went out to dinner every night . Boston is famous for clam chowder, oysters and crabs. Everything was very delicious.
My second visit was at the end of last year, from December 28th to January 4th. It was very cold and it snowed. I had jet lag while I stayed in Boston, but we enjoyed shopping and watching the Disney ice skating show, an NBA basketball game and the Boston Pop Orchestra - each day we did something different. They were all good memories.
Now I am planning to go on a third trip to Boston from the end of this April. I have already got the airline ticket. I am looking forward to seeing him soon.

教師より
Good job! Boston is certainly a famous American city. I've always wanted to go see a game at the baseball stadium there. I hope you enjoy your third trip.
2012年最初のessayを紹介させていただきます

"What makes a good person?"
I think a parent's good education for their child would make a good person. A parent has to teach their child about virtues in order not to raise a bad person. A child who learns this won't usually become a bad person. For example, a parent has to teach them what is wrong, what is right and why.
A parent has to bring up their child, but there are various ways of bringing up a child. I found a news report that said a pet helps to bring up a child. A child, by having a pet, can learn the difficulty of care, the importance of love, and the preciousness of life. A child who experiences this will surely become a good person.
A person who knows the distinction between right and wrong by a parent and a pet as a child, will become a good person. I know it's not the only factor of making a person, of course, but the experience of childs' age would affect them very much.

教師より
I agree that our parents play a large role in making us a good or a bad person. Your statement about the influence of pets was very interesting, and I agree with it.

Cosmetic surgery aims to improve the appearance of the human body. The technical progress has been remarkable in recent years. In my view, I can agree with cosmetic surgery for burns, traffic accidents, and the like. And I can agree with removal of armpit hair, arm and leg hair because the treatment is not invasive.
However, I am against cosmetic surgery for purpose of removing wrinkles and raising noses, and breast augmentation, because those surgery injects foreign matters into the body: it seems dangerous and unnecessary for humans.
There is a similar opinion about liposuction for obesity.

教師より
I'm of the same opinion that cosmetic surgery should only be used for certain problems. I always find cosmetic surgery to be a strange practice that can really affect people mentally if it goes wrong, or they become addicted.
"Characteristics of a good leader"
To be a good leader, we need good sense, foresight, severity and kindness.
The leader of a soccer team said, "I always keep calm and thinking about how to cope in bad conditions."
I understand it.
Many people have their own leaders, and if we have good leaders, our team or company improves.
I know a good taxi company. All drivers are smiling and polite, so I want to use this taxi company.
Good leadership can lead to good staff.

教師より
Leadership involves balancing severity and kindness. We sometimes call this the "carrot and stick". For example, if you want a hourse to move sometime you can encourage it with a carrot but sometime you have to hit it with a stick.
However, recently in parenting and teaching there is a tendency to use only the carrots. Maybe it can cause children to be spoled.

"A person from the past I'd like to meet"
A person from the past I'd like to meet is Mr. Alexander Fleming, who discovered the first antibiotic that is Penicillin.
It is very famous that he discovered the antibiotic by chance. He just found that mould on bacteria made a certain barrier around it. I thought that if I were him, I would have missed the barrier. But it was his very big effort that he realized that the barrier made by the mould had an activity against the bacteria. Then this natural antibiotic was named Penicillin, which is very famous nowadays as the first antibiotic in the world.
I was taught that such a discovery is called serendipity when I was in university. Serendipity is very important when we search for the source of medicine.
If I could meet Fleming, I would like to ask him how he could notice that mould has antibiotic activity. I suppose he must have had some special point of view which other people don't have.
I also want to show him the current world, and how antibiotics help us. These days, we can't live without antibiotics. Discovery of antibiotics is one of the main reasons that human beings can live a long life.

教師より
Most people would say that they would like to meet a famous actor or singer, so it was refreshing to read your essay. I'm familiar with Penicillin, but I did not know the story behind its discovery. As I told you in class, I'm allergic to Penicillin so I probably wouldn't be best friends with Alexander Fleming.
Thanks for sharing!

I have some heroes. One of them is my father. He was a teacher of my life. There are many good memories of him. He didn’t scold his children in a fit of anger. Instead of reprimanding us, he was good at guessing what children were thinking and he admonished us not to repeat the same mistake. When I moved up to the middle school, he started taking a correspondence course in penmanship. He was an office worker, he got up early in the morning and practiced everyday. When I grew up, I could understand why he continued the practice everyday. I think he wanted to make an atmosphere which his children could study in. I used to get up early in the morning and study before breakfast. His skill in penmanship improved and he finished the course and got the license to teach penmanship at last. I learnt from him that it was important to have the aim and the will to make an effort in life. He is a hero for me.

I've been to England, Australia and Canada.
In these countries people often hug and shake hands with their family and friends. I like these customs. My family members are used to shaking hands when we leave the house, but we aren't use to hugging. I sometimes hug my favorite friends, student and my children. I wish I could hug Mum much more. I know that Mom will be happy to hug me.
Japanese like to take a bath everyday, but people didn't even use to take a shower several decades ago. Taking a shower is easy to clean our bodies several times a day in the humid Japanese summer.
Christmas is a custom enjoyed all over the world now. In Japan, Christmas is just a festival where people have Christmas parties and exchange presents. Especially, children think Santa truly exists and they look forward to the presents and stocking fillers from Santa on Christmas Day. When I was a child, my parents gave me presents on my birthday and Christmas Day every year. These days were big events for children. Nowadays, I think children have birthdays and Christmases so often in a year. They can get things when they want.
I like bread very much. I eat bread for breakfast every morning. I sometimes make sandwiches and cook hot dogs, too. I enjoyed eating bread when I went abroad. The bread which I ate in each country was very good.
Japan has been westernized and has adapted a lot of foreign cultures, so we don't feel that foreign customs don't belong to Japan.

教師より
I must say I really enjoy the Japanese custom of the most senior person paying for food and drinks!
But seriously, many Japanese I've met have refused to let me pay for food, drinks, taxis, etc. and it's something I want to do myself from now on to make guests feel welcome.

英語に触れる、話すことで、私たちの世界はもっともっと広がっていきます
一緒に楽しみましょう！
WILL ENGLISH SCHOOL紙屋町教室
http://www.will7es.com

If we have good manners at home, we will be well-mannered to everyone in society. The basic manners at home are greetings. We say good morning and good night to each other at home, and other greetings are that I'm leaving and I'm home.
We always try to say thank you, sorry, pardon me, excuse me for ___ and I'm sorry. Anyway, we need to take care to be thankful and not to give people trouble. Nobody likes to be troubled, and troubles are caused by rudeness and selfishness.
We are happy to see smiles and polite behavior, and to hear kind words.
I live in a rental apartment building now. When I get into the elevator we say greetings each other, even though we aren't acquainted. It is good manners that a person standing by the door of the elevator keeps the door open until all people can get out of the elevator. People say thank you to that person.
When I was standing at a counter, a person standing in front of me gave me their place because I had just one thing to buy. I sometimes do the same thing. This is an example of good manners which requires putting oneself in another person's place.
If people are considerate of the feelings of others, they have good manners. Shop, restaurant and hotel staff have good manners in Japan and I think that public officers have had good manners recently. People know that good manners make other people happy.

2

But nowadays, TV is at the center of the mass media, amusement, and advertisement. Why did everybody accept TV? It’s an easy question to answer. First of all, you can get many things, even you stay in your house, for example you can watch a drama or a sports event on TV. You don’t need to go to the movie theater or stadium. And you can get information quickly. TV broadcasting is the best way of getting information. Almost all people watch TV every day. That’s why TV broadcasting is good for advertisement.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

The taste of a TV program is different for each generation. But a good TV program is one that is accepted by every generation. For example, a good drama can touch everybody. The ability to be touching is one of the factors in making a good program.

I think each generation gets harder and harder to please so TV producers have to work harder to think of new ideas. The incident remains forever as what he/she did. Some criminals may hope to be condemned to death.
It may be an easy and proper way for both the criminal and government to finish the tribulation by capital punishment.
However, it abandons another way.
We may be able to throw away everything that they had done until the terrible event.
Therefore, it is a really sad result. Ofcourse, it also takes into account that people who lost their life can never come back again.

教師より
The death penalty is a difficult topic for many people, particularly westerners.
